Deck Don’t Matter #2

My next two segments of Deck Don’t Matter are focusing on the newly designed/reformatted extended format.  The removal of power errata in that format has cause quite a change up in the character selection for the format.  A character that wasn’t even on my radar for extended a few months ago is now back in the scene and I think she is ready to swing for the fences.

The de-errata that has occurred to Astrid is that she can be ready and her giving the reversal keyword to weapon attacks.  This plus her explosive damage bonus is going to make her a big contender.

Now many of the deck decisions come from both order Astrid and updating her with better cards.  having never played her after the release of Red Horizon there are a variety of cards that she gained since the old days including Pommel Smash, Hyper Bomb**, and Dust Crusher. All 3 of these cards provide an essential threat to your opponent that they can’t deny in attacking you early in the match.  Also in the threats for this deck is Deathcopter Attack with variant range weapon options and a good block zone this attack can be great on offense and defense.

Now for the list itself-

The key to playing Astrid is her weapon count.  Between Her foundations, Attacks, and Assets, there are a total of 34 weapons in this deck the fuel her pump ability.  Additional damage pump from Paying Respect to Your Ancestors, Determined, and even Orders From Heidern you can really push the damage.

Now getting these attacks to connect is the next part.  Committing out your opponent's key defense foundations with Directing an Empire, into the sunset, stun attacks, and Hope for one’s people all work at clearing the way for the big attacks to hit.

Now the fringe cards that call into the flex spots of the deck are Triple Botta in Tempo and Polar Warp.  These two cards can seem out of place but is there so much talk on Ominous Whistle and other all in combo decks, these two card will delay the go off turn intermittently and sometimes long enough to pull off a big win.

Sideboard options could be whatever you think is necessary.  Personally a mix of Showdown, Warrior’s Path, Polar Warp, Master of Magnetism, and extra copies of cards already existing in the deck.
Good to everyone competing at Origin's this week in Ohio, and Congrats to Mike Hardiman in winning the UK Extended Nationals event.
